Recruitment Scams to Watch Out For (And How to Protect Yourself)

Job searching can be a vulnerable time. The longer you go without calls or interviews, the easier it is to fall prey to scams that promise quick fixes or too-good-to-be-true opportunities.

One of the most common scams I’ve seen involves recruiters asking for money or services in exchange for “tailoring your CV.”
Here’s how it works:A recruiter calls, tells you that you’re perfect for a job, but says your CV needs tailoring by a professional. They then send you a link to someone on Fiverr or another service. Feeling desperate to land the role, you might go ahead with it.
But let me be clear: a genuine recruiter would NEVER do this.
If tailoring your CV was that important:
a) They would do it themselves as part of their role.
b) They wouldn’t need it at all because they’d have such a strong relationship with their client that even a half-finished CV would get you the interview.
Don’t fall for it.
Yes, tailoring your CV for every job is essential, but you don’t need to pay a scammer to do it for you. Instead, you should learn how to do it yourself.
