I remember going into a networking event, being spoken at by one person, and leaving after an hour. It felt like such a waste of my time. I had no idea what I was doing, why I was there, and I had the audacity to be annoyed that I didn’t achieve my (non existent) objectives.


Shortly after this I wrote a training course on networking - There’s no better way to learn than to teach. I did a lot of research and realised that actually many many people hate traditional networking. It’s not just me.


Making these events into relationship building events rather than thinking of them as ‘networking’ makes it less overwhelming.
